The Hay-Adams Author Series to Present Historian and Author Paul Fisher on June 16

Tickets available starting May 22

Washington, D.C. - May 19, 2023 - The Hay-Adams, one of Washington, D.C.'s most iconic luxury hotels, is thrilled to announce its next Author Series event, a captivating literary lunch featuring acclaimed historian and author Paul Fisher and his latest book, The Grand Affair: John Singer Sargent in His World.

A great American artist who also earned renown in Britain, John Singer Sargent holds enigmatic appeal for having charmed and scandalized audiences. He eventually quit a lucrative portrait-painting career to explore the seemingly paradoxical subjects of religion – and nudes. In The Grand Affair, Fisher offers a vivid life of the buttoned-up artist and his unbuttoned work.

On Friday, June 16, 2023, Fisher  will discuss his book during a themed three-course lunch with wine at Top of the Hay at The Hay-Adams with panoramic views of the White House and the Washington Monument as a backdrop. Building on the literary salons hosted in the late 1800s by the hotel’s forebearers – John Hay and Henry Adams – the Author Series events feed curiosity and appreciation of the literary arts through lively presentations and conversation, while also indulging the palate with fine food and drink.

Taking place in the heart of the nation's capital, The Hay-Adams Author Series creates an intimate setting that encourages meaningful exchanges between authors and their audience, promoting a deeper appreciation for the written word.

"The Hay-Adams Author Series and the entire Celebrating the Arts program exemplify our desire to create unique experiences for our guests," said Managing Director Nicolas Beliard. "We are excited to showcase the literary talents of renowned authors like Paul Fisher and provide a platform for intellectual exploration and cultural enrichment."

Tickets for the Hay-Adams Author Series are available for purchase from May 22 on the hotel's website at https://www.hayadams.com/celebrating-the-arts/author-series. With limited availability, early booking is highly recommended. Attendees will have the opportunity to purchase a copy of The Grand Affair: John Singer Sargent in His World from Politics and Prose during the event.
