WASHINGTON, DC – February 9, 2022 – The Hay-Adams is launching its 2023 Celebrating the Arts season with an early-evening Music Salon event on Monday, March 13, featuring a performance by PostClassical Ensemble musicians.
The event aims to immerse attendees in a lively exploration of the varied landscape of American art song, with works by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin, H. Leslie Adams, Lori Laitman, Tom Cipullo and Paquito d’Rivera. Performing these works will be Melissa Wimbish, soprano; David Jones, clarinet; and Audrey Andrist, piano – hosted by renowned conductor and PostClassical Ensemble Music Director Ángel Gil-Ordóñez.
Celebrating the Arts at The Hay-Adams builds upon the literary salons hosted in the late 1800s by the hotel’s forebearers – John Hay and Henry Adams. The program encompasses the hotel’s longtime, popular Author Series events, featuring some of the most compelling authors of our time, as well as Music Salons. Music Salons, take place in the hotel’s Hay-Adams Room, which features a warm ambiance amid inviting woodwork – including original paneling from the Hay and Adams homes – and period ceiling details.
PostClassical Ensemble is known for uniting some of the East Coast’s most distinguished musicians to capture composers’ extraordinary vision while creating a welcoming, inclusive and joyful experience that nourishes the soul, touches the spirit and inspires the mind. Under the visionary guidance of Madrid-born Gil-Ordóñez, known for blending his deep passion and experience with the refined talent and skill of elite musicians, hand-selected ensembles of musicians will create music performances at The Hay-Adams that transport and connect people.
Tickets for the March 13 Music Salon are priced at $60 per person; doors open at 5:30 pm and the performance begins at 6:00 pm. Tickets are on sale from February 13 at: https://www.hayadams.com/celebrating-the-arts/music-salons. To complement the performance, the evening includes hors d’oeuvres and wines themed to the event.
The pre-theatre, or happy hour, timing, is intended to give attendees a stunning cultural respite from the activities of their day, allowing time to enjoy dinner afterwards. The Lafayette, The Hay-Adams’ fine-dining restaurant, is open following the performance, should attendees wish to make a dinner reservation there. Off the Record, the bar at The Hay-Adams, also serves light gourmet fare and cocktails late into the evening.
